Characteristics of LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 Cathode Powder Prepared by Different Method in Lithium Rechar

LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 materials were synthesized by different synthetic routes; through spray-drying, combustion, or solid-state reactions. The LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 powders were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), particle size analysis, and charge/discharge cycling. All the prepared LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 powders were identified as hexagonal structures and exhibited discharge capacities of ca. 130-140 mAh/g at 2.8-4.3 V. The LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 powder prepared through the spray-drying method showed better electrochemical properties, such as discharge capacity, rate capability, and constant cycling, over those synthesized from combustion and solid-state reaction.
